Vaucluse
Architecture
2022
The Derby Street Residence is a carefully considered transformation of an existing family home in Vaucluse — designed to bring light, openness, and connection to everyday living. Through a new verandah, reimagined kitchen, outdoor entertaining space, and layered landscaping, the home now feels calmer, softer, and deeply connected to its surroundings.
At the centre of the project, a sculpted outdoor pavilion extends the living spaces beyond the interior. Curved forms, filtered light, and warm timber battens create a gentle rhythm throughout the verandah, while adjustable pergola louvres allow the space to shift naturally with the day and seasons. Sunlight moves across stone surfaces and soft landscaping, creating moments of shadow, texture, and quiet retreat.
The new kitchen is designed with restraint and clarity — balancing refined materiality with everyday functionality. Marble, timber, and integrated joinery create a calm backdrop for gathering, cooking, and connection. Large sliding openings dissolve the boundary between indoors and outdoors, allowing family life to flow seamlessly between spaces.
Outside, the landscape was designed as an extension of the architecture itself. Layered planting, natural stone, and built-in seating soften the edges of the home while creating privacy, shelter, and a sense of arrival. The outdoor barbecue and fireplace become focal points for entertaining — spaces designed to be shared slowly, across seasons and generations.
Every intervention feels deliberate yet understated.
A home reshaped through light, landscape, and thoughtful connection.
